Roache: The Cockroach

Coronation Street's actor Bill Roache has said in an interview that children who are sexually abused may bring it upon themselves.

The eyes say it all

The 80 year old B celebrity actor with the sinister eyes and creepy smile claimed the child victims are being punished for what they may have done in previous lives.

It's bad enough to realise the senile old git believes in previous lives and reincarnation, but for him to try and shift the blame to the victims is utterly scandalous.

It is the kind of message that should never be broadcast as it trivialises the hideousness of child abuse.

I always thought Roache - aka Ken Barlow - seemed a bit strange, but now I realise his dodgy expression was that of someone with something to hide

  1. I agree with you, anything which makes paedophilia seem OK is wrong, wrong, wrong!

  4. As someone who's getting old myself, I don't see that the element of age has a bearing on this, and I've not known a belief in karma to be connected with senility either. In fact, people who blame the victims of rape, cancer, or what have you, are, in my experience, more likely to be young people who haven't had enough life experience to realize that they too are vulnerable to being victims.

  5. Snowbrush, thank you for pointing out the error of my ways. You are right, of course, and I felt a twinge of guilt reading your comment. I feel like editing that passage out but now it's a case of "the horse has bolted..." It was written in haste, without pause for thought. After all, I'm no spring chicken either :)

  6. Bill Roache's tv interview/comments were unbelievably stupid. He is now frantically apologising, trying to scramble out of the hole he's dug for himself.
Michael Le Vell, another Coronation actor who plays Kevin, a car mechanic, has been charged with multiple counts of abuse of a child, (see http://huff.to/11x0CQV). He's had this charge hanging over him for 18 months or more. He now awaits trial in September. Will Bill Roache say that Michael Le Vell is now being punished for his badness in a previous life? Or is he saying that it's the young girl's fault again?
Just shows how ridiculous all this 'belief' in former lives is!
